Beautification Update: Poppies Planted for Spring on Magnolia!

Huge thanks to the all-star team of volunteers who turned out Thursday to get a long median near Mt. Tam Racquet Club seeded with California poppies for spring.

The LCF’s Joan Lundstrom and Kristin Abbott headed up this beautification effort, securing supplies, rounding up volunteers and working with the city to identify the best spot for the wildflowers. Public Works prepped the bed and planted some Cape Mendocino red grass to anchor the wildflowers.

Yesterday morning, experts from Refugia Marin, the California Native Plant Society, Friends of the Corte Madera Creek and the Larkspur Community Garden joined the entire LCF team to bring this dirt patch to life!

The process? Stamp. Sprinkle [seeds]. Stamp. Sprinkle [dirt]. Stamp.

[Why so much stamping?!? The experts said it helps the seeds connect with the dirt and hide them from hungry birds. Kristin and Laura turned it into a sort of native plant Conga line…]

The next part? Joan says, “Pray.”

Oh, and then there’s the weeding… but in spring there will be poppies, poppies, POPPIES!

Beautification is one of LCF’s priorities—and another way in which we at Larkspur Community Foundation are funding projects that make Larkspur a more beautiful and connected place to call home.
