Meet Larkspur’s History Makers: Lelia Lanctot and Marilyn River

Hats off to Lelia Lanctot and Marilyn River for championing the four-year effort to get Larkspur’s first set of history markers installed in September.
How’d they do it? Here’s the backstory…
Way back in 2021, Lelia was walking her dogs at Blackie’s Pasture and noted Tiburon’s history markers. She called Marilyn, who served 24 years on the Heritage Board, LCF’s Joan Lundstrom, who administers the History Fund, and Sallyanne Wilson to get the ball rolling on a set of plaques for Larkspur.
The team decided to place the markers on public land along the Northwestern Pacific Railway line which ran through Larkspur and played a key role in its development. The city’s Julian Skinner checked out the locations and gave the project a thumbs up.
Sales from the book, “Larkspur Past & Present,” were leveraged to fund production of the markers by KVO Industries in Santa Rosa. Marilyn tapped the book’s stories and photos to create the content on each plaque while Lelia handled finance and relations with the city.
Larkspur is lucky to have champions like Lelia and Marilyn who persevere to make our town even more extraordinary!
And we at LCF are proud to help make these icing-on-the-cake initiatives a reality. The LCF and boardmember Joan administer the History Fund, which will—fingers crossed—bring another batch of plaques to our streets in the near future.Want to help bring more history markers to Larkspur?
