Volunteer Recognition

The Larkspur Community Foundation and The City of Larkspur have co-sponsored a Larkspur Volunteers Appreciation Event: The Heart of Larkspur; annually since 2016. Held around Valentine’s Day at the American Legion Hall, the event celebrates volunteers in and from Larkspur and Greenbrae. In 2021 the event was replaced with a mailed gift card to identified volunteers.

The idea for this event began when several organizations told the Larkspur Community Foundation of their need for more volunteers to help in a number of different ways. Mayor Catherine Way was also interested in thanking City volunteers, and asked us to help. The Foundation initiated this event to encourage our sense of community by appreciating and encouraging local volunteers. Annually over three hundred people are invited, representing some twenty-three different nonprofit agencies and groups, and local government boards and commissions.

Many people have said how really pleased they are to be acknowledged by the City as volunteers in our community. Local businesses generously provided door prizes for the volunteers. Gifts were donated by:  Central Marin Police, Citrine, Coquelicot, Don Antonio’s Ristorante, DJ’s Chinese Cuisine, Farm House Local, Folio, Joanie’s on Magnolia, L’Ambiente, Lark Theater, The Left Bank Brasserie, The Lingerie Shop, Perry’s, Pierre Josephs, Rustic Bakery, The Silver Peso,  and SMART.
