Councilman Chu Joins Foundation Board

May 13, 2020

Larry Chu, who served on the Larkspur City Council for 16 years – including three terms as mayor — has joined the Board of the Larkspur Community Foundation (LCF).  He retired from the Council in December and quickly accepted an invitation to join the Foundation Board, acknowledging that he’s always happy to have a full plate.  “I’m retiring from the City Council but not sure I’ll be doing anything less,” he said.

“We are thrilled to have Larry join us,” said Sandy Blauvelt, LCF Board chair. “He brings incredible knowledge and talent to our foundation.”

Larry and Taz Pesso have lived in Larkspur since 1988, raising two children, Jonathan and Kyra.  Larry’s record of public service in Larkspur is extensive, including representing the city on boards and committees at the city, county, and state levels, working on pension reform strategies, and serving on an ad-hoc Larkspur committee dealing with traffic and neighborhood safety issues.

Larry has worked with the community’s youth as president of the Marin Council of the Boy Scouts and as a Little League coach.  He has served on the board of the California Council of Parent Participation Nursery Schools as well as the Twin Cities Cooperative Preschool.  He was president of the Baltimore Park Homeowners Association.

Professionally, Larry has worked for more than 40 years for financial service firms in a variety of financial, technology, and compliance roles. He’s currently working for the Federal Reserve Bank in emergency management, ensuring that critical financial functions keep operating in times of economic stress.

Larry most recently led the successful passage of “Measure C,”  establishing coordinated Wildfire Safety measures for Marin County.

“Larry’s enormous wealth of knowledge, talent and experience will be a great asset to our board in determining where LCF funds should be spent,” said Sandy Blauvelt.
